●Overview
The sludge uses sodium polyacrylate without aiming for extremely high instantaneous expansion rates. Instead, it seeks controlled and moderate water absorption and full extension of the polymer chains to achieve its flocculation or thickening effects.
· Core objective:
· As a flocculant: By leveraging the adsorption and bridging effect of its long polymer chains, small sludge particles are captured and intertwined to form large clumps, thereby achieving solid-liquid separation (settling or dehydration). However, excessive water absorption and expansion at this stage could actually consume the reagent and reduce the extension length and active adsorption sites of the molecular chain.
· As a thickener/hydrating agent: It is used to increase the viscosity of the sludge, preventing excessive water loss and maintaining the required lubricity and stability during construction (for example, in directional drilling crossings and pile foundation construction). What is needed here is uniform hydration and moderate viscosity increase.
· Speed characteristics:
· Moderate speed: Typically designed to fully dissolve and hydrate within a few minutes to several tens of minutes, rather than in seconds. This is beneficial for operators to have sufficient time for stirring and mixing.
· Ion sensitivity: sludge is usually a complex system with high salt content and multiple ions. The polyacrylate sodium products used in this field (especially as a flocculant) are usually anionic, nonionic, or amphoteric, and their molecular weight and ion degree are carefully designed to adapt to different soil components and pH values.
●Corresponding grades and characteristics
This application are mainly using sodium polyacrylate
SR840: it has moderate water absorption rate and full extension of polymer chain so as to obtain flocculation and thickening function which are important in sludge area
